Harvey Johannes Keitel was born on May 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.
He was born into a Jewish family, with his father Harry Keitel being a successful businessman and his mother Miriam Keitel, nee Klein, being an immigrant from Romania.
Keitel spent his childhood in the Brighton Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn and attended Abraham Lincoln High School.
